Germany leads the way with 574 GW of batteries in the pipeline

Europe's battery market has entered a new phase.

Interest in battery storage has never been greater, but at the same time, it is becoming increasingly clear that the biggest challenge is no longer a lack of projects—but access to the power grid.

In Germany, grid operators received applications in 2025 totaling 574 GW of battery capacity. Greece saw a similar trend, where a 4.7 GW tender attracted applications for 12.15 GW, while Denmark is simultaneously working on new principles for grid connection and project maturity.

Trends point to a market where competition is gradually shifting. It is no longer just about developing as many projects as possible, but about being able to demonstrate grid access, financing, project maturity, and the ability to turn plans into operational facilities.

At the same time, the first operational results from Greece are beginning to show how batteries, in practice, help reduce curtailment, increase flexibility in the power system, and create value across multiple electricity markets. As a result, the market is shifting from expectations and models to concrete experiences and documented results.
